In today’s day and age, starting a business is not enough.

You need to do more. So much more.

If you do not market your business online, you are missing out on a lot of potential.

Think back on the last time you googled something. It’s either a review for a movie, or to find a restaurant nearby that serves sushi or to hunt for a wedding photographer whose portfolio you can scrutinize online.

Everybody googles.

And by putting your Business on the internet, you can make a lot of sales or bag a lot of clients.

The benefits of blogging are multiple fold. Blogging not only makes you look like an expert but also helps you gain clients easily.

In this post, I am going to discuss several ways you can market your business or blog – online. Whether it is a physical business or an online business, the tips will apply to both.

BUILDING A POWERFUL WEB PRESENCE

1. Have a website.

If you do not have a web presence, your business virtually doesn’t exist.

Being a web developer for more than 4 years has showed me that a website can work for any business or freelancer.

I’ve built websites for Restaurants, Pharmacies, Salons, Bloggers and a lot of other small businesses.

And I watched their Businesses boom with this one addition.

I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but times are changing and people no longer take out the yellow pages to hunt high and low for a Guitar Instructor.

I hate to burst your bubble, but it's very difficult to grow all by yourself. At some point, you will need to network with other Bloggers in your niche as you grow.

Now, everything is a Google search away.

Understand what types of blogs do well before you jump on this bandwagon.

So, invest a little money in your website and build yourself a beautiful website that’s not only pleasant on the eyes but SEO effective.

You can do this by getting a self-hosted website and purchasing a flexible theme that lets Google crawl your website and index your website easily.

You can either hire a designer or if you’d like to get more personal with your Website, I have a handy step-by-step tutorial that will help you build your own money-making Blog.

As for Themes, I highly recommend Divi as it’s one of the best themes on the market and comes with super flexible options that will help you design a beautiful website!

Use a good website theme that lets Search Engines crawl your website easily and gives you good customization options.

And the best part? You can constantly edit it to reflect your mood/business. It’s that versatile.

It’s like owning 100 themes.

2. Nail your Target Audience.

The moment people land on your website, they should know what you do.

If they can’t figure it out in 5 seconds, they’re going to leave and move onto another website.

You do not want that.

Ask yourself who your target audience is and have a singular mission statement.

Re-iterate this statement in every page you build.

Reiterate your blog mission statement in every page you build. This is the essence of marketing your business online!

My Blog is for women who want to build successful online businesses and increase their traffic and almost every blog post and page re-iterates this message.

I either talk about blog traffic or building an online business.

By doing this, you will not only be clear and precise, but you will establish yourself as an authority in your domain of expertise which will enable you to make more sales and get more clients.

3. Have a clear navigation

I cannot tell you how many times I have searched for a service provider, found a beautiful website and not found a way to contact them.

Be extremely clear and concise with your navigation. People should find what they're looking for the moment they land on your Blog!

Like I mentioned before, be extremely clear in your approach.

People say, “Do not judge a book by its cover.”

But let’s face it. We all do.

Heck if the cover is pretty, I am definitely going to pick up the book and see what it’s about.

People do judge a book by its cover and by building a beautiful brand, you are automatically putting your Business in the top leagues.

Likewise, when someone lands on your website and they find it disorganized, vague and not user-friendly, they’re going to assume that your Business probably isn’t that great.

Having a business means making extremely smart investments.

So, take your time and build a website that is well-formatted and conveys your message directly.

Do not be vague.

Make sure that you have the following pages

  • Services (you can also include your prices on this page)
  • Products (I use SendOwl as my storefront)
  • About (this is a great way to build trust with people that land on your website. Read my tutorial on writing an extraordinary About page)
  • Contact Page (very important as people will contact you for queries)
  • Blog (optional but I highly recommend it as it can 10x your income)

CREATING OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD BRILLIANT CONTENT

4. Establish your expertise by blogging

I’m very good friends with a Website Designer.

And I watched her start her website from scratch. She used to get 1-2 clients a month but once she started blogging, her inquiries went through the roof.

I can honestly tell you that once I started blogging, my Inbox started filling with Illustration Requests.

Primarily I am an Illustrator and by blogging about building great online businesses, I have shown people that illustrations play an important role in almost every business venture as they make it more fun and entertaining!

The key to have an amazing blog is to not only know how to find your target audience online but also to stand out from the competition in whatever you do.

And by incorporating little illustrations in my blog posts, I have won over a lot of potential clients.

Additionally, you can also embed videos on your blog posts that you can shoot yourself using your laptop or an inexpensive vlogging camera in order to keep people on your website for longer and establish a brand.

5. Focus on SEO.

SEO is that very important big word that you will hear almost everywhere.

And there’s a reason for that.

Google does not know what your website is about unless you put that information in your text, in your blog posts and in your images.

Now, if I had a Travel Blog and I constantly published posts like:

“10 Travel Bloggers You Should Be Following”
“Exploring the Magical City of Egypt”
“Travelling to Moscow – The whole Itinerary”

Google will understand that I am consistently blogging about Travel and know that I’m very serious about it.

Now, imagine I’ve been publishing these posts for 3 years.

Google knows that I have covered a lot of information and will automatically boost my posts to its readers who are searching for travel tips. Why?

Because it only wants to provide the best for its readers.

That is why you need to focus on SEO.

Using keywords in your blog posts that are related to your niche helps boost your website and increases traffic.

I discuss a lot of SEO strategies (that I’ve used primarily on my Blog) to get so many of my posts to rank high on Google in my eBook – The Secret Sauce to Skyrocketing your Blog Traffic.

Learn how to grow your Blog traffic with these strategic tips that top bloggers have used to gain 100K pageviews. Includes indepth SEO and keyword strategies and so much more! Also includes 3 Bonuses.

This brings me to my next important point…

6. Put out exceptional content

Do not write posts for the sake of filling your website with posts.

This strategy will not work because there are over 440 million blogs and over 4 million blog posts published every single day.

Meaning if you want to be discovered, you have to seriously up your game and write good content.

Don’t be afraid to give your information away freely.

Give away information freely. This is the best way to showcase your expertise and market your business online

The more you share, the more clients and customers you attract because you end up showing off your expertise.

And this speaks a lot about your Brand and Services.

At the end of the day, always strive to be helpful, generous, and kind.

This not only increases your business’ value but really shows the world what your brand is about.

If you’re more into visual content, then take your time to create outstanding photos/videos to post on your Social Media.

Create a name for yourself by maintaining quality. Know your goals and create a blog content plan for the whole year.

Whether your aim is to educate/entertain or both, strive for the best. This will earn you followers!

BECOMING MORE SOCIAL

7. Go for meetups

This one is by far one of the best networking tips that have worked for me so far.

If you have WordPress, you can log in to your dashboard and look up all the nearby events. You can also use Facebook to look up events that are happening close by.

This is a great way to introduce yourself to similar startups/businesses and make some great contacts.

Remember to carry your Business Card with you so you can hand them out to potential friends.

8. Start a Vlog Channel

Apart from the million other things I’m currently doing, this has been on my To Do list for a long time.

This is one of the best ways to show how human you are and connecting with your followers becomes super easy.

Creating Vlogs isn’t hard once you have the basic tech and a topic to discuss. Plan your vlogs in advance and then pump out videos that’s related to your niche!

These are a lot fun to edit!

Additionally, you can embed these videos on your Blog, or publish them on Instagram/Facebook.

So these work in your benefit to get you more followers/subscribers.

9. Comment on other people’s Blogs

Building relationships is terribly easy to do today. And by commenting on other blogs that are in your Niche, you will not only build a relationship with a fellow Blogger/Businessperson, but you will also attract attention from people in the same niche!

Leave thoughtful and well-written comments. And watch the magic happen.

Remember to have a completely established Business Profile set up.

This way, when someone clicks back to your website/social media handle, they will fall in love with your brand and you will gain a follower!

By constantly over-delivering, you will build a crowd of fans who are dying to read your content the minute it is published. This is what you should aim for as a Blogger.

10. Participate in Online Communities

I love Facebook Groups and Quora for this.

Join 3-5 groups and constantly participate in threads. You can always help out and show how knowledgeable you are when people have problems related to your niche.

Remember not to spam and/or violate any of the Group rules as this won’t get you too far.

Just be helpful and consistent.

People take notice.

Make sure that you use your reader's excitement to get them to do things like subscribe to your newsletter or add a comment.

Trust me.

INFLUENCER MARKETING

An Influencer is someone who has a large audience. So, instead of trying to grow your own, you approach an Influencer with a good offer and reach out to their audience.

This really works, because it’s a shortcut to gaining more followers and eyes on your Brand.

11. Guest Post on another Blog

Find 2-3 Bloggers/Influencers in your niche who have a large audience. And approach them with a guest post idea.

Influencers are often really busy and are always on the lookout for content creators who can publish great content on their own feed/blogs.

Remember to be extremely polite and knowledgeable. Always introduce yourself and provide topic ideas that you know he/she will be interested in.

Make sure that you study the Influencer’s blog/social media before you write to them.

And always, always link back to samples of your own content so they can get a taste of your writing/content.

They shouldn’t have to hunt for your information.

Once you get the go-ahead, write a share-worthy post. Remember, you are trying to win over a new audience. And don’t forget to link back to your own Blog.

12. Don’t be afraid to drop names in your Blog/Content

I love dropping names in my Blog/Social Media.

If I find share-worthy content, I love pinning those to my Tailwind. Because at the end of the day, I want to provide useful content to my audience.

If you do mention a name in your Blog, simply email said Blogger/Influencer and let them know how much you love and appreciate what they do.

This itself will get you on their radar. And who knows? If they love what you’ve written about them, they might even share your post on their social media!

13. Create Round-Up Posts

Although I’ve never done this, I’ve seen lots of Bloggers who have and the results are phenomenal.

The idea is that you create a post that includes advice from tons of Bloggers/Influencers. You pick a topic that you know will click with your niche and theirs and then invite all the Bloggers (that you love and admire) to give their two cents.

It’s really something.

Here are some of my favorite round-up posts that I’ve seen other Bloggers write:

  1. How to Find Time to Blog When you have Children : 25 Mommy Bloggers Reveal Their Secrets

  2. How to get Your Blog Noticed: 11 Blogging Experts share their Tips

Now, if it overwhelms you, start small. Maybe 5-10?

At the end of the day remember, it’s always quality before quantity.

So, if you aren’t for pulling in over 50 people, just aim for 5-10. This allows you to take longer pieces of content from each Blogger.

And that brings us to the end of this delightful post.  Before you leave, let me brief you with a few important notes.

Conclusion:

In short, pick 2-3 methods at a time and just go for it!

Try a new strategy every single day to connect with people around you who are in the same niche.

Marketing your Business doesn’t have to be hard as long as you constantly try and engage with activities that help you connect with the outside world.
